Pack 1292 is excited to launch a new cub scout pilot program designed exclusivity for kindergarten aged boys. The pilot introduces kindergartners to cub scouts by establishing the Lion rank. The Lion compliments the existing scout ranks of Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos – already in place for older elementary school boys.
The Lion Cub Scout program, like the other scout ranks, requires the scout to partner with an adult leader. This is usually a parent, but can be any extended adult family member. Together the scout and adult partner work to explore various required and elective adventures needed for the Lion badge. The Lion and his adult leader combine with other families to make up the Lion Den, and when combined with other dens, make up the pack.
To help get the Lion Den off to a good start, the pack assigns a designed Lion Guide, typically an experienced den leader, who helps facilitate the first couple of den meetings, while mentoring the adult partners. After the first several meetings, the adult partners then take turns running the den meetings, using the Lion Handbook as a template. This shared leadership promotes overall family involvement leading to ongoing fun and successful meetings. Den meetings are typically 45 minutes to an hour, and will take place at the Burton Gym or at an alternative agreed upon location. Lion Cub Scouts also participate in the monthly pack meeting and age appropriate field trips.
Please consider cub scouts for your kindergartner. Enrollment begins in September 2017!
